NRFit® diversion with Pajunk
Erasme was the first Belgian hospital to convert to NRFit with the help of Pajunk
The university hospital Erasme in Brussels, Belgium, established in 1977, with 1048 beds stands for patient care, education and research. Especially patient safety is very important to Prof. Dr. Pierre Pandin, who wants Erasme to be a forerunner in this area. Together with Pajunk, Erasme was the first Belgian hospital to switch the complete plexus, spinal and epidural anaesthesia as well as pain management (InfiltraLong catheter) and paediatrics from Luer to NRFit.
For a smooth run of the NRFit conversion, our area manager Danka Klinkenberg has conducted educational programmes with the Erasme team to make all employees confident with patient safety and NRFit. After that, the requirement planning ensured that there would be enough stock for all demanded products.
On January 17th, the day of the conversion, Erasme disposed all Luer products and replaced them with Pajunk NRFit products. In the first days after the conversion, Mrs. Klinkenberg accompanied the Erasme team in various surgeries to avoid typical challenges when starting with NRFit and supports them even until today.
The successful conversion was reached through good communication between the hospital’s procurement and pharmacy department, a listing of the so far used Luer products, the planning of the yearly demand and information exchange between all concerned departments. Additionally, concerned users, procurers and pharmacists need broad knowledge about NRFit through internal educational programmes. Finally, a realistic planning and determination of the conversion’s deadline together with the pharmacy is fundamental.
We are convinced that also, other hospitals in Belgium will follow the example of Erasme and patient safety related to NRFit will become more and more important.
