How bad is the environmental pollution?

Negative reports about huge mountains of garbage in Asia and Africa, enormous garbage patches that exceed even the size of Germany and air pollution that drastically affects our health regularly make the headlines. No wonder more and more people are taking to the streets, trying to make their voices heard.  People are committed and are doing everything they can to put an end to environmental pollution. As a future-oriented family business we also want to make our contribution.

Especially as a manufacturer of medical devices, we see it as our responsibility to help people with innovative products and to protect the environment by implementing sustainable production processes and advanced technologies.

What is the global consumption of resources?

Due to the steadily growing global economy, the associated consumption of resources also continues to rise. Global resource consumption in 2017 was close to 90 billion tonnes. In future, this consumption will continue to increase sharply.¹ At the same time, only around 14% of the plastic packaging produced worldwide is being recycled. The rest is either burned, ends up in landfills or remains in the environment.² Currently, we need roughly 1,75 Earths to cover our resource consumption in the long term and the trend is rising.³ Mineral oil is currently the most important traded resource in the world. Thanks to its unique character, it can be used not only as an energy source, but also as a raw material for most of the products used today. Our society without mineral oil is hardly imaginable nowadays. The problem with this is that the resources are limited. According to forecasts, global mineral oil resources will only last till the year 2060.⁴ This makes it even more important to think ahead, preserve resources and recycle them continuously.

What do we do as a future-oriented family business?

Among other things, we rely on ecological packaging for our products. We combine strict sterility with sustainable preservation of resources. The ECOPET foil used for our thermoformed trays is made from 100% recycled material and is 100% recyclable itself. The inner layer of our RPET foil and GPET foil are made from up to 80% recycled material. The recycled materials used for this purpose are from two different sources. On the one hand, we do not want to create any new waste, which is why the waste generated during production processes is fed back into the process, which in total makes up 20%. In addition, the material used for the inner layer consists of up to 60% externally sourced waste. This returns valuable raw materials to the resource cycle.
